Nandi is also seen as a symbol of righteousness and justice. In ancient times, kings placed Nandi idols near thrones to signify fair and dharmic rule.

The Origin of Nandi
According to Hindu legends, Nandi was born to Sage Shilada. To please Lord Shiva, Nandi performed severe penance. Impressed by his devotion, Shiva blessed him to become his sacred mount and the leader of all his divine attendants (Ganas).
