First Avatar of Durga: Maa Shailputri is the daughter of ‘Parvata Raju’ (Mountain King) – Himalaya/Himvanth. She is the first amongst the nine avatars of Maa Durga and is worshipped on the First Day of Navaratri. In her previous birth, she was ‘Sati Bhavani Maa’, the daughter of King Daksha. Maa Shailputri, also known as Parvati, was married to Lord Shiva. On the first day of Durga Navaratri, Parvati Devi is worshipped. Maa Shailputri holds the ‘Trishul’, a weapon, in her right hand and a Lotus in her left hand. She rides on a bull. She has a pleasant smile and blissful looks.
