In the sacred cave of Maa Vaishno Devi Dham, after receiving the blessings of Maa Brahmacharini, devotees behold the divine idol of Maa Chandraghanta. This sacred idol is about 6.11 feet in height, 6.11 feet in width, and 3.11 feet in diameter. Adorned with soft divine light and natural decorations, the idol appears as if the Mother herself is radiating with the glow of her divine energy, showering blessings upon her devotees. The moment devotees witness her form, their hearts are filled with peace, courage, and devotion.
The third day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta. She is radiant, graceful, and the embodiment of valor and strength. Seated on a tiger, her golden aura and shining face captivate the hearts of devotees. Out of her ten arms, eight hold weapons, while the other two are in the blessing and protection mudras.
The name Chandra means the ever-changing emotions and thoughts, just like the moon that waxes and wanes. Ghanta means the temple bell, which, no matter how it is struck, always produces the same deep, pure, and sacred sound.
Maa Chandraghanta teaches us that the human mind, when caught in changing emotions and scattered thoughts, becomes restless like the moon. But when that same mind focuses and surrenders to the Divine, it becomes steady, pure, and divine like the constant sound of a bell. This state awakens divine power and leads to spiritual growth.
Brown is Maa Chandraghanta’s favorite color. On the third day of Navratri, when devotees worship her wearing brown-colored clothes with devotion, the Mother blesses them with courage, victory, and peace.
Jai Maa Chandraghanta!
